Members of Trelawney Rowing Club will be off to a flying start now they have two new boats in the water.

The club, based at Stithians Lake, has been able to launch a 15ft skiff named “Bridget” and an 18ft flash boat named “Kingfisher” thanks to a £10,000 grant from Sport England Lottery Funding.

Flash and skiff boats are traditionally built, fixed seat rowing boats and are ideally suited for adults and juniors alike. It means the club can continue to take part in regattas around the county – currently the club holds the County U18’s Points Championship – and enable more rowers to practice on the water at any one time.

Both new boats were blessed by Father Bone and named by the president’s wife Bridget Williams, followed by a reception at the clubhouse.

Describing the boats as a “great asset”, club member Sally Bray: “We would like to thank Solo Building Supplies based in Penzance for their sponsorship and also Mrs O Benney for her donation towards the club sign.

“We would like to welcome any new adult and junior members.”

Training is held on Tuesday and Friday, weather dependent, between 6pm and 8pm at Stithians Lake. Call Sally Bray on 07870 972589 for more details.
