Surfers Against Sewage have a new set of wheels to help take their message out on the roads thanks to £10,000 from the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Hugo Tagholm, chief executive of Surfers Against Sewage, said, “Thank you very much to players of People’s Postcode Lottery for their funding. The van has enabled us to increase the number of education programmes and people volunteering for our beach cleans.

"An increase in people participating in environmental volunteering will result in an improved understanding of the coastal environment and the environmental issues affecting it as well as an increase in children using the coastal environment and enjoying the outdoors.”

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have generated £41.5 Million for more than 1,200 charities, good causes, and grass roots organisations since launching in 2008.

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery awarded £501,533 to 72 projects in the South of England.

Surfers Against Sewage, based in Cornwall, campaigns for the protection of the UK’s oceans, waves and beaches for everybody to access, use and enjoy safely and sustainably. Surfers Against Sewage organise community beach cleans & education events providing people with volunteering opportunities and skills to help care for the coastal environment.

Clara Govier, Head of Charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, said “Raising over £40m for charities is unbelievable and something players of People’s Postcode Lottery, all over Britain, can be proud that they have achieved. More players mean more money for good causes and each year, as tickets increase, more communities will benefit from funds on a local, national and international level.”
