Falmouth Theatre Company is continuing its tradition of providing top quality entertainment for the community with its new show A Night at the Musicals which is being staged at the King Charles Theatre.

The company is taking a break from its usual annual musical production and instead has put together a show which is described as a “fast moving, toe tapping, feel good” production which features songs from many hit musicals, old and new.

Included in the programme are old favourites from the likes of South Pacific, Oklahoma and Carousel as well as more modern numbers from shows including Wicked, Cats, Les Miserables and Legally Blonde.

There will also be a tribute to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One with the whole show interspersed with sketches and a special appearance by Vicki’s Dance Academy. The entire production is kept flowing with the help of compere Martin Keast.

This week’s annual production is the 88th for the Falmouth Theatre Company which began its life in 1926 as Falmouth Amateur Operatic Society whose first ever show as Miss Hook of Holland performed at the former Drill Hall in Berkeley Vale, which is now the Phoenix Cinema.

The company was renamed in the 1980s when it became known as the Falmouth Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society to take account of the fact it was by then staging an annual summer season play. The third name change occurred in 2005 when the Falmouth Theatre Company was born.

The company is now “embracing change” with its latest production, which it is hoped will win the support of locals and visitors alike and bring in some much needed cash. The group is currently trying to raise around £20,000 to pay for repairs to the roof of the John Harris rehearsal rooms in Chapel Terrace.

A Night at the Musicals can be seen at the King Charles Theatre in New Street, tonight (Thursday) and tomorrow and there will be a final matinee performance at 2.30pm on Saturday. Tickets cost £7 in advance or £8 on the door, with £5 concession tickets available for the matinee.
