A schedule of activities has been announced ahead of Mawgan Feast Week, starting next week.

Festivities are set to begin on Sunday, June 8, with a 6.30pm thanksgiving service and the aying of posies on the village’s war memorial by local organisations.

The Feast week celebrates the life’s work of sixth century Abbot-Bishop St Maugan who travelled through the country establishing many churches which still bear his name.

Events will be taking place throughout the week, with concerts by Gweek Band following the Sunday thanksgiving service, and on Monday by Trengilly Singers with guest soloists Richard Collington and Charlotte Firth at 7.30pm in the church.

Activities for all the family continue on Tuesday, June 10, starting with a children’s tea and sports afternoon in the recreation hall and field. The event is free for parish children. Stepping up the fun for the adults at 7.30pm the same day, Wheel Around Wendron will be hosting an evening of American square dancing, The recreation hall will host a family quiz night on the Wednesday, complete with raffle and refreshments. Proceeds of this event will be shared between Mawgan Church and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

For those not worn out by the square dancing lessons, parishioners will be meeting at the Mawgan Recreation Hall car park at 7pm on the Thursday to head off for a two-hour ramble, with dogs welcome and sturdy footwear advised.

The following day there will be a bingo and pasty supper starting at 7.30pm in the recreation hall.

June 14, Feast Saturday, will be jam packed with entertainment, beginning at noon with a car boot sale (pitches are £5 each) on the recreation field. There will then be a fayre that will be opened by Alison Stevenson accompanied by children from Garras School.

The hall and field will be filled with bouncy castles, face painting, raffles and stalls, with shire horses and vintage vehicles on show outside.

There will also be competitions for both fancy dress and the artwork of pupils of Garras School.

The week will wind down with a barbecue and licensed bar from 6pm with the Ship Inn Recovery Party in the marquee on the field, featuring live music from local band Loose Change.
