Volunteers from Falmouth RNLI rescued a yacht which had run aground on Black Rock at the entrance to the harbour on Saturday afternoon.

Just after 1pm Falmouth Coastguard requested both the all weather lifeboat be launched and the inshore lifeboat be launched to assist the 27ft yacht Shinner with six people on board which had put out a Pan Pan broadcast reporting that it was aground.

An RNLI spokesperson said: "The all weather lifeboat passed a tow line to the yacht while the inshore lifeboat put a lifeboat crew member on board the yacht to assist.

"The yacht was pulled clear of the rocks at 13:22 and once it was confirmed that there was no water ingress and that the yachts engine was operating correctly at 13:28 the tow was dropped and the all weather lifeboat was released to return to its station while the inshore lifeboat escorted the yacht back into the inner harbour.

"The yacht had been sailing close to Black Rock when it went slightly to close to the reef and ran aground."
