Firefighters were called to Bridge Street, St Austell on Friday evening after a report of a fire in a tower block.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service were called to a fire on the landing on 9th floor of Park House flats, St Austell just after 7pm.

Five appliances, two aerial platform ladders and support appliances were mobilised to the scene. and crews using breathing apparatus and two main jets were used to extinguish the fire. Evacuation of the premises took place and the Fire service remain on scene damping down and assisting residents whilst .

The fire in on the 9th floor of the tower block was confirmed as out just before 11pm and all persons have been accounted for.

A spokesman said that seven casualties were treated by paramedics for minor injuries and that fire damage was confined to the 9th floor of the building.

Fire crews searched the flats in the building complex and in total the 24 occupants of the flats on the top four floors of the complex are being temporarily rehomed with the help of the local authority and Emergency management team.

Once the building had been searched and made safe occupants of the lower seven floors were allowed back to the building on a phased return.

Specially trained officers have carried out an investigation into the cause of the fire.
