The wife of a doctor from Feock has been detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act after admitting she stabbed him once through his chest while he slept.
Marion Hughes, herself a retired doctor, pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility, after the court heard she was suffering from psychotic delusions.
Marion Hughes, 59, was found at the scene of the stabbing at their house, Collinge, in Trolver Croft, Feock, on November 15 last year.
She was initially arrested on suspicion of murder before being taken to hospital for treatment of injuries she had sustained.
At Truro Crown Court today, Friday June 6, her guilty plea was accepted by the crown.
Speaking outside the court, the couple's son Mark Hughes said: "On behalf of all the family I’d just like to say we all deeply loved Tiger and he is very deeply missed by us all.
“He was a wonderful father and brother as well as a deeply loving and caring husband who did everything he could for mum throughout her illness.
“We’d like to thank everyone for their messages and their prayers at this most challenging time.
“Now that we have reached a verdict we hope that we can try and move forward from this terrible tragedy.”
Mr Hughes, who was the senior partner at the Clinton Road Surgery in Redruth, qualified in 1977 and was a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners. The couple had two sons.
