Reports of a red distress flare near Portreath sparked a multi-agency search from late last night to the early hours of this morning.
After the flare was sighted by a person near Deadman's Cove, between Godrevy and Portreath, St Ives Lifeboat launched at 11.15pm on Sunday, 8th June, and Portreath and St Agnes Coastguard teams were also tasked to search from the shore.
Lifeboat coxswain Paul Whiston said: "We commenced searching close to the shore in a NE direction as far as Porthtowan, then turned and continued to search back SW to Deadman’s Cove.
"During the search we used parachute flares and infra red night sights to assist us.
"When we arrived back at Deadman’s Cove nothing had been found, and Falmouth Coastguard called off the search at 1.05am."
