The plans for a resort including a building resembling an ocean going liner on the site of the former Falmouth Beach Hotel have been released this week, but how did the town react.

First up, the groups in the town.

“A huge investment for the area and I am pleased that much thought and consideration has been given to the needs of Falmouth’s future tourism market along with an attractive design in a popular sea front area.”Shaun Davie – Chairman Falmouth & District Hotels Association

“We look forward to being able to offer further input throughout this hugely important development.” David Yelland – Secretary, Falmouth Bay Residents’ Association

“A brave and sincere ambition to not only improve the local area but also to provide Cornwall with an outstanding resort that could bring a real wow factor to Falmouth Bay.
Matthew Thomson and Kim Conchie – Local residents and members of Local Enterprise Partnership Employment and Skills Board

“A brave and exciting project. I believe that Nigel Carpenter does have the best interests of the area at heart.” Ruth Hills – Local resident

“An iconic building together with enhanced superior hotel facilities should, when brought to fruition, further reinforce Falmouth’s position as the leading coastal town in the South West.” Falmouth Bay Residents’ Association

“An ambitious, exciting and visionary project with a real ‘wow’ factor, which not only adds further to the Falmouth visitor offering and experience, but enhances local facilities.”
Sally Wilding – Falmouth BID.

And what about the public having their say on thepacket.co.uk

Victoria Meldrew said: "All I can say is WOW - it looks amazing and will enhance the seafront giving jobs and improvement to the area."

While another said: "Great to see someone with some vision and a willingness to invest in Falmouth."

Poached Egg, which I am guessing is not a real name, said: "All looks great but let's hope it is not built any higher than the old Falmouth Beach and the residential apartments are certainly not going to fall within the affordable housing band and are more probably going to be second homes."
