Delays are expected as the Highways Agency starts a series of improvements to Loggans Moor roundabout on the A30 at Hayle.

The overnight work, which includes widening the A30 approach to the junction and providing additionally traffic lanes starts on Monday, 16 June 2014 and continues for five weeks. Work will be undertaken between 7.00 pm and 6am.

Project sponsor, Dave Stock, said: “Loggans Moor roundabout suffers from congestion and subsequent delays during peak traffic times which are significantly worse during the summer months when tourism in the area is at its peak.

“These improvements will increase traffic flow by providing additional capacity and reduce waiting times, especially during peak tourist times.

“The scheme will also provide wider benefits by supporting growth in the surrounding area. Planned new developments, providing opportunities for employment and growth are proposed along the A30, as a major strategic link in Cornwall. Capacity improvements at this junction will assist growth locally near Hayle and along the A30.

“We have planned the works carefully to cause the least possible disruption but we would advise road users to allow slightly longer for their journeys.”

The scheme will provide two defined traffic lanes westbound for approximately 60 metres before the roundabout and additional road markings on the roundabout itself. There will also be two additional exit lanes on the A30 eastbound and additional signing.

A variety of traffic management will be used throughout the work and these will include overnight temporary speed limits, convoy working, carriageway closures and lane closures.

A 40 mph speed limit will also be in place at most times during the works but with occasional 10 mph limit imposed during times when convoy working is in operation.

During the road closures the following fully signed diversion routes will be in place: Treswithian to Loggans Moor roundabout: Westbound traffic to come off at Treswithian junction and take the Connor Downs County Road to Loggans Moor roundabout. Eastbound traffic to take the same route in reverse.

Loggans Moor roundabout to St Erth roundabout: Westbound traffic to take the B3301 through Hayle to St Erth roundabout. Eastbound traffic to take the same route in reverse.
