Poignant start as Mawgan celebrates Feast Week

Taking place at the village war memorial the service was led by the Rev Heather Aston. Music was provided by Gweek Silver Band.

Posies were laid on the memorial by representatives of various village organisations, including Garras School and The Owlets Pre-School.

The prayers recognised the sacrifices made during World War I, both by those who served in the forces and those who remained on the home front.

The mood then lightened with a rousing concert given by Gweek Silver Band. A very appreciative audience enjoyed a varied programme which included some enthusiastic audience participation.

The evening concluded with the opportunity to chat over a cup of coffee.

Feast Week continued with the Trengilly Singers performing in church on Monday and an opportunity to “have-a-go” at square dancing yesterday, Tuesday.

Bunting has been strung out around the houses, and the village has “a keen sense of anticipation” for the rest of the events, said organiser Lindsey Hockley.

A bingo and pasty supper will then be taking place this evening in the recreation hall, starting at 7.30pm.

The final day of the feast week, Saturday, is full of things to do. Fun starts with a car boot sale from midday, and the main events kick off at 1.30pm in the recreation hall and its grounds.

The busy schedule should include something for everyone: – shire horses, vintage vehicles, a bouncy castle, fancy dress competition, face painting, raffle and more.

The culmination to the week’s events will be live music from Degrees of Jazz at 4pm and Loose Change from 6pm, in a marquee set up on the recreation field.
