A rescue team from Falmouth Coastguard had a false alarm on Sunday when they were asked to investigate a seemingly abandoned boat at Durgan Beach.

After receiving a call just before 9pm about the boat, which had been on the boat for some time with no visible owner, the crew arrived to find it had left Durgan and was off Trebah Gardens, with one occupant who was rowing towards a yacht moored in the river.

A coastguard spokesperson, who described the incident as a "false call with good intent", said: "The boat and occupant were monitored to ensure they boarded safe and well and the team stood down and returned to base ready for service again by 9.30pm."
