A new digital advertising campaign has been launched to attract more German holidaymakers to Cornwall.
The campaign is a joint initiative between Visit Cornwall, Visit England, Newquay Cornwall Airport and the German airline, Germanwings, which has a direct route from Dusseldorf to Newquay.
The aim is to promote the air route prior to the German school holidays, with the digital advertising campaign will run across German media until mid-July.
As well as a German-language page on the Visit Cornwall website with sponsored links to various local tourism businesses, the campaign includes a competition to win a luxury short break in Cornwall.
Julian German, Cornwall Council portfolio holder for economy and culture, said: “Research shows that overseas visitors are keen to try a range of experiences while on holiday and so tend to stay for longer and spend more than domestic visitors. With Germany being Cornwall’s strongest overseas market, German visitors are therefore of great value to Cornwall and so this promotional burst at a key time has the potential to create a significant impact for our tourism industry.”
“This campaign is a great example of partnership working to pool resources for maximum effect,” adds Malcolm Bell, Head of Visit Cornwall, the Cornwall Development Company tourism service. “Cornwall has long been a favoured holiday spot for German visitors hence the direct air route, and through this campaign we hope to welcome many more.”
