Cornwall Council’s Food and Safety Team have been helping businesses improve their food hygene during ational Food Safety Week.

Tne team organised a training course at Duchy College for 22 food handlers who wanted to help their food businesses improve their hygiene practices and their score under the National Food Hygiene Rating system (NFHRS).

The event on 16 June was designed to engage and support local food businesses with both legal and best practice concerning food safety procedures.

Advice and training was given to 22 food handlers from Cornwall based businesses where improvements had been identified as being required. The training included practical demonstrations on cleaning, hand washing technique, kitchen hazard spotting and avoiding cross-contamination. Current guidance on the importance of gas and electrical safety in commercial kitchens was also covered.

John Dickinson from the council’s food and safety team said: “We want to help businesses and give them advice and practical guidance so that they can potentially improve their hygiene practices and as a result potentially their score under the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme. Feedback from those attending the event was very positive and the potential for further such events across the County is being considered.”
