Helston Theatre Company is welcoming a new director for its annual summer play.

Having trod the boards in the group's production of Oliver! last year, Leslie Church is now taking the helm directing There Goes The Bride, a farce by Ray Cooney.

Ably assisted by husband Johnny as assistant director and stage manager, rehearsals are in full swing.

Leslie was a member of the world renowned London Gay Men's Chorus until he and Johnny moved to Cornwall in 2012. Before moving to the UK Leslie took part in plays within various New Zealand cities.

Theatre company chairman Paul Blaber said: “It is wonderful to have new talent in the group. Rehearsals are going very well so |far – the show is in good hands.”

Leslie said he was relishing the challenge of taking on such a |well-known comedy.

He said: “It is a great privilege to be directing this cocktail of comedy capers for the Helston Theatre Company; the cast are brilliant and the script is hysterical.

“Set in 1974 with 400 guests, an |all- too knowing bride, a stressed-out bride’s father and self-indulgent grandparents, what could possibly go wrong on this wedding morning?”

There Goes the Bride runs from August 6 to 9 at the Epworth Hall in Coinagehall Street.

Tickets are available from Heathercraft, the box office on 01326 568936, or from the Epworth Hall website.
