An Elvis impersonator who sparked a 24-hour armed police hunt has been charged with a weapons offence.

Derrel Weaver, 60, is accused of unlawful possession of a firearm and will appear before magistrates.

Police closed a primary school and surrounded and sealed off the village of Widegates, near Looe, Cornwall, last week over fears that Weaver could have access to firearms.

The massive manhunt was launched following an alleged domestic-related incident at Weaver's home, Higher Widlake Farm, on June 26.

He was arrested the following day after a search lasting more than 24 hours and was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. He was released into police custody yesterday.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: "Derrel Weaver, 60, has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and remains in custody to appear before Bodmin Magistrates' Court this morning."

On a Google Plus page for Weaver, he is described as having founded The 750Fours, a club for owners of Honda CB750 motorbikes.

A statement on the About section adds: "Derrel is lead singer with the Rock n Roll Revival Band DW & The Road Rockets, and has also launched a successful solo career, releasing eight albums to date."

The page describes Weaver's occupation as "Rock n Roll Singer" and adds that he runs his own tree surgery business, having been trained by the National Trust.
