There are still no answers from South West Water over whether raw sewage poured into the sea off Gyllyngvase Beach on a busy summer day.

Concerns were raised after the company's own 'BeachLive' website sent out an alert that sewage was being released on June 24, as hundreds enjoyed the sunny weather on the beach.

While at the time the company said they thought the alert was due to a malfunction and that it had sent staff to check the event duration monitor at the site, it has still been unable to answer a question from the Packet about whether a spill had taken place.

The company, and other water companies, release sewage into waterways and the sea via combined sewer overflows during heavy rainfall, however there was no rain on June 24.

Recent spills at Godrevy have caused beach closures and the cancellation of a surfing contest.

A spokesman for the company said: “We are investigating the performance of our alert system following the BeachLive notification on 24 June.”
