Falmouth-based artist Suzanne Crook and her colourful unicorns were featured on last week’s episode of Channel Four’s The Auction House.
The programme goes behind the scenes at Lots Road Auction House in Chelsea which is described as “an Aladdin’s cave bursting with magnificent artefacts showcasing the ever-changing taste of London's super-rich.”
Suzanne said: “I sent my unicorns up to Lots Road Auction House last year, within a day I was contacted by Channel Four and asked to be part of a documentary. I was visited in my studio and travelled up to London for the auction.
“It was a great deal of fun, even though I did not sell my unicorns the experience was wonderful, and I knew in time I would have my beautiful unicorns seen by many people when the show came out.”
Suzanne says all of her unicorns have their own names and personalities and are all hand-carved and hand-painted with a finish in gold leaf. She was originally inspired by Brian Stewart, the late director of Falmouth Art Gallery, who had asked her to produce work for the gallery’s Darwin exhibition.
“That seems such a long time ago,” said Suzanne.
“He was always so supportive with my artwork and always wanted me to aim high. I am sure he watches me now.”
