After two and a half years of fundraising, the new Constantine play area has been formally opened. Villagers have seen their local park transformed for the better since one mother arranged an open meeting back in 2012.
After the old equipment was deemed unsafe and removed, the children of the village were in desperate need of a new, secure playground.
Through cake bakes and other activities, community group JuMP (the Jubilee Memorial Park Regeneration project) managed to raise thousands of pounds on top of winning funding bids for park gates and seating.
This money funded an array of new equipment including a zip wire, basket swing, climbing frame and slide.
Cornwall Community Foundation gave £2,300 to fund seating which needed to be suitable for the park.
The community were involved in the project, with workshops being held to find out what the children wanted their park to include.
The project has been a great success, fulfilling the goal of a new play facility for all ages, with Clare Davison, a member of the committee, saying: “It’s amazing, every day there are kids, parents and grandparents in the park and groups of people with picnic blankets.”
“The new Constantine village play park is an immense achievement thanks to the JuMP committee |and supportive surrounding community.”
