A well known Helston businessman has become the 54th president of Helston Rotary Club.

Benny Vleminckx is recognised as the director of the electrical goods and services company, Pilgrim & Treloar, based in Wendron Street.

He also has an active role in the south west brass band community, along with being organiser of the annual rotary carol concert held at Helston Methodist Chapel in Coinagehall Street.

Mr Vleminckx takes over the office from retiring president Mike Hales, who said: “Benny is an outstanding member of the Helston Club, combining supporting the local community and charities through Rotary whilst running his busy company.”

The club has been awarded a citation from the worldwide president of Rotary International, Ron Burton, to mark the club’s service to the community, organisation and increased membership.

Mr Vleminckx already has ideas about the difference he would like to make to the club.

He said: “I would like to thank Mike Hales for all the hard work he has put into the club during his year as president. “My main aim for the coming year is to drive forward a recruitment programme for new members. Without new blood and new ideas the club will gradually wither and die.”
