Parents, teachers and students of Helston Community College’s Post 16 cohort gathered for their end of year prize giving to recognise the achievements of its departing students.

Students were awarded subject prizes as well as individual awards for outstanding achievement and contribution to the college.

The success of the group was acknowledged in a speech from student president, Lily Potter, and by vice-president, Josiah Haslam, who highlighted the positive contribution they had made, and wished them good luck for life outside of Helston Community College.

Keynote speaker and retiring head teacher, Dr Pat McGovern, gave an insightful and humorous speech before wishing the students well for the next chapters of their lives.

Chairman of governors, Graham Vallender, then offered thanks to the staff, students and parents for all their dedication and support.

The students, parents and teachers were entertained by Helston School Jazz Orchestra and, at the end of the evening, were invited into a marquee on the lawn for homemade food and beverages provided by year 12 catering students.
