The launch of the fifth year of the Cornwall Best Bar None Scheme will take place at Sound Nightclub, Penzance next week.

Sound were the overall winners of Cornwall Best Bar None for 2014 and came second in the National Best Bar None competition 2013.

Owners and managers of clubs, bars and pubs in Cornwall are invited to the launch of Cornwall Best Bar None 2015 from 6pm on Tuesday (July 22).

The launch event is aimed at promoting the scheme and providing an easy path for licensed premises to become Best Bar None accredited. There will be the opportunity to hear from those administering the scheme and those whose premises are Best Bar None accredited. An opportunity to ask questions will follow the launch and application packs will be available.

The launch event will be from 6pm on 22 July last for an hour and light refreshments will be available.

Paul Desmond, general manager of Sound said: "The Best Bar None scheme is very important to the industry with increasing entrants year on year. It shows an on-going commitment by licensees to raise standards. We now have the licensed trade, Pubwatch, the police and local authority all aiming for the same goal, a better, safer experience for customers in Cornwall. It's personally helped us to develop a night time economy that has become a major attraction for both locals and visitors alike.”

The nationally recognised scheme award scheme encourages and recognises licensees for the safe and responsible management of licensed premises. Working in partnership with the local emergency services, licensing trade, professional bodies and Cornwall Council, the scheme aims to ensure the safety of customers.

To qualify, pubs, bars and clubs are required to meet strict standards in operation management, particularly in relation to measures designed to reduce crime and disorder, prevent public nuisance, promote public safety, protect children from harm and raise awareness around alcohol consumption.
