The whole community turned out for this year’s Ashton village fete, which was blessed with plenty of sunshine and lots of support.
Held in the field behind the Lion and Lamb pub, it was opened by landlady Elaine Martin.
The event was held to coincide with the day of the men’s Wimbledon tennis final, which was a theme throughout the day.
Pimms, cream teas and strawberries and cream were on the menu, and the big match was screened inside a marquee.
There was a host of stalls around the marquee, with stallholders kitted out in tennis whites. On offer were gift items, books, plants, pot luck tombola, face painting, knitted goods and local greetings cards.
Villagers were challenged to bake a selection of homemade cakes for sale, with prizes for the best cakes – and special categories for men and children.
