RNAS Culdrose has announced how it plans to ease traffic on the roads around Helston during this year's Air Day.

Taking place next Thursday, July 31, gates open to the air base at 9.30am and close at 6pm.

Visitors arriving before 9am will be able to park on the Culdrose sports pavilion fields by following the signs. Once parked they will enter the site via a side gate and directed to the ticketing booth. This parking will involve an approximately 300 metre walk to the ticketing booth and main site.

From the Helston and Penzance direction access will be via Culdrose main gate on the A3083. Parking marshals will direct visitors to ticketing lanes and then onto the parking areas.

For those travelling from Falmouth and Truro, follow the traffic signs for Air Day along the A394 and diversions along the temporary one way system through Gweek, into the site via the W site gate.

From The Lizard people will be directed to W site gate or the Culdrose sports pavilion fields.

The best access for disabled visitors is to arrive from the direction of Helston on the A3083. Drivers are asked to display their Blue Badge prominently on arrival to be directed to suitable parking. If arriving from the Falmouth and Truro direction they will be parked close to the main site but it will involve an approximately 70 metre walk to the ticketing booth.

Anyone arriving by bicycle or on foot is asked to access the site on the same side of the road as the footpath.

When leaving drivers are asked to remain patient and follow the directions of the traffic marshals, as there will be many thousands of vehicles to get away safely and as quickly as possible.

These directions might not appear initially to be taking visitors in the direction that they want to go but traffic systems are in place to eventually route to all directions.
