Two of Helston's churches will be marking the centenary of World War One this Monday.

Helston Methodist Church will be open from 10am until 4pm, for an exhibition of local interest.

There will be a small cross and a poppy wreath, surrounded by photographs of local people who were involved in the Great War, along with a paragraph about each one.

Local schools have been involved, by making poppies that will be displayed around the church.

Meanwhile the parish church of St Michael's is hosting a flower festival, part of the town's commemorative events.

Taking on the theme of the war, there will be flower arrangements filling every window, table and pedestal in the church, all created by businesses in the town to their own interpretation of the topic.

The festival will be opened at 10am on Saturday by the mayor Mike Thomas and will run until the end of Monday, the date Britain joined the war.

The church will be open between 10am and 4pm on all three days, although the Sunday services will take place as usual.
