With the summer holidays now here families are being encouraged to fill the long days by preparing entries for this September's Helston Harvest Fair.

This year the event takes place on the weekend of September 6 and 7.

On the Saturday will be a family pet show, held in the garden of the Epworth Hall, with entry from 9.30am and judging at 10am. All pets are welcome, including the unusual.

Then from 12.30pm, with judging starting at 1pm, the family fun dog show will begin with fun new categories.

To round off the day, the carnival will leave Helston Football Club at 5pm, including the newly elected carnival king and queen, and proceed through the town down to the Grylls Monument. Judging will take place at 4pm; for more information email carnival@helstonhf.co.uk The Sunday will see the popular horticultural and craft show at the Old Cattle Market.

All the information, with the entry forms for the Helston in Bloom competition running alongside this, can be found in the Horticultural and Craft Show Schedule available from Heathercraft in Coinagehall Street or Gillian's Tubs in Meneage Street.

To help children prepare entries for the show, a series of workshops are taking place over the holidays.

These will take place on August 16 and 23 from 10am until 1pm at Helston Museum, to make crafts.

Then on August 30, between 2pm and 5pm at the Epworth Hall, people can learn how to bake bread and make cupcakes for the show.
