A FALMOUTH man who was claiming council tax benefit and job seeker’s allowance failed to reveal that he was receiving redundancy insurance payments of £40,000, had a job, and also a tenant at his property.
Julian Stuart Jackson, aged 42, of Boslowick Road, Falmouth, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates’ Court to two offences of benefit fraud between 2011 and 2013.
Alison May, for the CPS, said he had received over £8,000 in overpayments plus £40,800 from the insurance payments.
Jackson told magistrates he had had a really bad time, losing his job, divorcing and losing his father to cancer. He was paying back money to the Department for Work and Pensions and the council, and had not expected to be taken to court.
He said he was sorry for what he had done and had not set out to do anything wrong.
Jackson was fined £265 with £86 costs and surcharge.
