UPDATE: At around 9am this morning the body of a man was discovered at Rosemullion Head by an RNLI inshore lifeboat.

A search operation was launched overnight after local man Ben Morris aged 24 ,was reported missing after going swimming.

He failed to return home after he had gone swimming in the Helford river equipped with a snorkel, a weight belt and wearing a dry suit.

He had told his family he was going out alone at 7pm last night. The alarm was raised at around 11.30pm when he failed to return home.

His vehicle was found in the Mawnan Smith Church car park.

The Coast Guard and the RNLI assisted by police officers and the Police helicopter searched the Helford river and the coastline overnight until 4.30am.
 
The search was resumed early this morning assisted by a search and rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose.

The body has been recovered and flown by helicopter to Treliske Hospital.
 
Ben’s next of kin have been informed and formal identification will be carried out later.
