A woman had to be pulled to safety after a fire at a fish and chip shop on Adelaide Street, Penzance , yesterday.

Crews from Penzance, St Just, St Ives, Camborne, and Helston  were called to deal with the blaze, at the Seaview fish and chip shop, which spread to a flat nearby.

Firefighters took two hours to bring the flames under control using four sets of breathing apparatus, a hosereel and two jets.

A spokesman said that the rescued woman was left in the care of paramedics.

Police officers were also called to the scene.

The chief fire officer, Des Tidbury, said: "Very proud of the crews and fire control tonight worked together to rescue a woman from a serious fire in Penzance."
