Two men have been seriously injured at Falmouth Docks after steel racking collapsed onto them this morning, trapping one.

Fire crews from Falmouth and a rescue tender from Camborne along with two fire officers, as well as police, ambulance and air ambulance services, were called to the scene in a steel stock area at A&P Falmouth just after 10am.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Crash rescue equipment was used to release the casualties."

Both men suffered broken bones, and one had a suspected spinal injury, although none of their injuries are believed to be life threatening or life changing.

One was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, while the other was taken by ambulance to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro."

Peter Child, Managing Director at A&P Falmouth, said two employees had sustained "serious injuries."

He said: "The thoughts of everyone at A&P Falmouth are with them.

“A&P Falmouth will be conducting a full investigation into the circumstances of the incident, and have informed all the relevant authorities.”

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed of the incident.
