The sun shone on St Peter's Church fete in Flushing on Monday, after a morning of heavy rain.
The fete was opened by Irene Gardiner, a former Flushing resident and fete organiser, who described it as not just the church fete, but the village fete as well.
She said: “We thought at nine this morning, and at 11, we wouldn't cancel, what would we do. We thought of holding it in the church hall, but didn't want to do that.
“We said, 'we're British, and this is how the empire was made'. So we went ahead and said we would have it on the bowling green, and now it's a beautiful afternoon.”
There were games and stalls including coconut shy, welly wanging and splat the rat, as well as a game to guess the mileage of a vintage Austin, and music by the Wendron Silver Band and a fun dog show.
Irene added: “It's an excellent turnout, especially considering that it must have been raining and people were thinking 'should we go or not.'”
