The sun shone on Friends of Princess Pavilion as they enjoyed a break in the weather for their annual summer garden party on Thursday.

The group invited both its members and the public to enjoy the sunshine, entertainment from the Black Rock Jazz Band, a Punch and Judy show for the children, and a range of stalls from community groups.

Jacqui Owen, visitor and education officer at Gyllyngdune Gardens, said: “Normally we get at least 1,000 people coming through during the course of the day.

“It's one of those annual events in people's calendars.”

Maureen Davies is the chair of the organisation, which organises monthly social events and has the garden party as the pinnacle of its social calendar, as well as raising money for additional investment in the gardens.

She said: “We've got lots of members and visitors here.

“It's nice to come together once a month, and the committee work hard and the local people enjoy the entertainment. It's free to enjoy the entertainment.”

Each stall at the event was raising money for a charity and the friends group, which will soon be paying for a wrought iron handrail for the garden steps, was running a raffle.
