The custodians of a restored cemetery in Falmouth became a victim of their own success last week, when over 200 people visited on the first open evening.

Tom Weller and Rob Nunn, who have spent the past two years clearing rubbish and overgrown foliage from Ponsharden Dissenters’ Burial Ground, and had only printed off enough information sheets for 50 visitors, which they had thought would be too many.

They thanked everyone who came along to view the graveyard, in which nearly 600 people were buried during the 19th and early 20th century.

Thay have also apologised that they were unable to provide guided tours to so many people.

They said: “We hadn't anticipated so many people turning up and it caught us off-guard.”

There will be another open day on Sunday, October 19, from 1pm to 5pm with guided tours, and the pair have promised plenty of guide books this time.

Anyone who would like to learn more about the cemetery, or arrange a visit, should contact Rob and Tom at dissentersburialground@yahoo.co.uk.
