Coverack Horticultural Show has celebrated its 60th anniversary in style.

Entry numbers were consistent with in previous years, with more than 400 exhibits on display. There was particularly strong support for the children’s section and cookery classes.

Being the 60th show there were plenty of memories to look back over. Fittingly, this year’s show president was Alec Foreman, whose father Tommy was chairman of the village horticultural society in 1955.

Alec was awarded a certificate from the society in recognition of his help and commitment to the club, as well as a special Banksian certificate and medal from the Royal Horticultural Society for his work over the last 50 years.

Another person with long links to the show is Bill Frisken. He exhibited again this year – winning five cups, including for most points overall and most points in the vegetable section – having first entered the show in 1956 as a child.

Show secretary Gloria Knight said: “There was the usual happy atmosphere that we always get at our shows. We felt it was very successful.

“At some shows this year their numbers have been down, because of the weather, but we didn’t, which was really nice.”
