Reports of a dismasted yacht off the mouth of the Helford River sparked an hour long lifeboat and helicopter search on Wednesday afternoon.
Just after 2pm the coastguard asked Falmouth RNLI to launch the inshore lifeboat after a yacht reported that another boat had lost its mast between August Rock and Rosemullion Head.
The lifeboat headed across Falmouth Bay and started a search of the coast line from Maenporth to August Rock, and when nothing was found they continued on to the Helford River.
A rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose which had been returning to station was asked to assist with the search, which ended at 3.10pm when nothing was found.
An RNLI spokesperson said: βIt is believed by the time the search and rescue units arrived on scene the yacht may have already made its way further up the Helford River into the more sheltered waters.β
