Youngsters at a Helston nursery were given the chance to head inside a popular children’s book when they took part in a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.

As part of the Alice in Wonderland themed day they were able to take part in vegetable painting – making prints with painted cut up vegetables – which proved particularly popular, and there was a ladybird hunt that involved them hunting around the garden for stones painted like the colourful bugs, with prizes for all.

They also made sour cream and chive dip, which they then enjoyed as a snack with cut up peppers and carrots. Nursery nurse Sarah Sowerby said: “The children absolutely loved it.”

To fit with the Alice in Wonderland theme, there was an ‘Alice’ table cloth and Sarah dressed as the White Rabbit from the book.

The event also gave parents the chance to see what their children had been up to in nursery over the last few months, in particular with the gardening club and cooking classes.

This included the youngsters starting to grow pumpkins from seeds, although they still have some way to go before the plants bear fruit.
