Up to 1,500 motorcycles are expected to roar into Falmouth on Sunday as part of an annual fundraising rally.

The 27th Annual Martin Jennings Memorial Motorcycle Run will hit the roads of Cornwall on September 14, arriving at Falmouth Recreation Ground at around 3.45pm, to be greeted by town mayor John Body.

This year’s rally, which will be raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care, will leave Truro’s Garras Wharf Car Park at 10am, arriving at Beacon Square in Camborne at around 2.15pm, before heading for Camborne via Troon and Helston, and travelling along Greenbank, Market Street, Bar Road, Castle Drive, Pennance Road and Western Terrace.

Councillor Dave Saunby, event organiser, said: “The ride has become the biggest charity motorcycle run in Cornwall. It is in memory of Martin Jennings of Beacon, Camborne, who tragically died whilst competing in the 1987 Isle of Man Manx GP.”

For this reason there will be a minutes silence in Camborne in memory of Martin and other bikers who have lost their lives on the roads of Cornwall.

The best places for viewing the cavalcade will be the bridges spanning the A30 between Chiverton and Camborne West from approximately 2pm. In the event of rain the run will be postponed for one week, with the final decision to be announced on Radio Cornwall on Friday, September 12, when Dave Saunby will be in the studio from 10am.
