There were dogs everywhere you looked at the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth on Saturday as proud owners took their pooches along to a garden party with a difference.

It was the fifth year that the Falmouth Bay Residents’ Association had held its garden party within the pavilion grounds, but this year there was the added attraction of a fun dog show which saw Oscar the Schnauzer judged best in show by retired vet, Jennifer Williamson. The runner-up was Sandy the Norfolk terrier.

The garden party, which included stalls, crafts, games, children’s entertainer Tarquin and free face painting, was officially opened by Arwenack’s neighbourhood beat manager, PC Andy Hocking and also attended by town mayor, John Body.

Elaine Leather, who organised the event, said: “The whole atmosphere was fantastic. We wanted it to be a real family affair for Falmouth and one which would heighten our profile and show we are a community association and not just a bunch of moaners and whingers. We had new members sign up on the day, which was excellent.”

During the afternoon, FBRA’s chairman, Jane Boriosi, presented cheques of £500 to the charity Penhaligon’s Friends and the Falmouth and District Hotels’ Association, which came from the residents’ association’s funds.

The aim now is to replenish those funds with Saturday’s garden party giving them a welcome boost.

“We raised a huge amount of money, but have not got the final figure yet,” said Mrs Leather. “This will go back into the pot.”
