It was an exciting day at BF Adventure when local tradesmen gave up their free time to begin work on the second phase of its big kitchen build project.

At 8am on Saturday, lorries arrived on site with the flat packed frame which had been donated by Rob and Nick Winfield of Truro Timber Frames, and wooden roof trusses donated by Pasquills of Bodmin.

Ten employees from Truro Timber Frames set to work on the frame, each one working free of charge. Adrian Richards, BF Adventure’s CEO, said: “It was incredible to watch. I went to make a cup of tea for the team and post a few pictures on Facebook, when I came back the walls were nearly up.

“Due to the amount of people on site, and the efficiency of the team, the frame was put up in record time and was finished by 1pm.”

The big kitchen build project was kick-started by the ladies of Inner Wheel of Helston-Lizard and is now supported by Rotary Clubs, business and individuals from across the county.

The current kitchen is an old mobile building which after 25 years has fallen into disrepair.

As part of the many focused programmes which support disadvantaged and disabled young people and adults, BF Adventure focuses upon life skills starting with the basics of looking after yourself, making a hot drink, washing up, washing clothes and preparing a meal. Having a fully accessible kitchen and dining area will allow the charity to enhance this programme and teach many more clients to be independent.

The big push now is to get the frame wood-cladded which will cost £1,860. To raise the funds for this, on Saturday, September 27 a team of 15 staff and volunteers will be cycling from Bude to BF Adventure headquarters then on to Lands End. In two days they will travel a total of 110 miles with a climb of 3,000m.
