Members of Helston Theatre Company are celebrating after being nominated for four awards at this year’s Cornwall Drama Association Theatre Festival for last year’s pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk.

Angela Wetherill is in the running for the best actress award for her portrayal of Mrs Sprout, Ben Blaber is up for best director and the company as a whole is vying for awards for the best set and best pantomime.

The awards evening takes place on October 25 at the Hotel Bristol in Newquay and the company is hoping to come away with a few trophies. Last year they won five awards, including technical excellence, for their production of Cinderella.

Auditions are about to take place for the company’s 2015 pantomime which will be Mother Goose – a traditional tale of a happy panto dame who gives away Priscilla, her beloved goose, in return for beauty and wealth but soon realises that these are not everything and cannot buy you happiness.

Add in a wicked demon, a good fairy and a handful of hopeless and hapless comic characters and you have the perfect ingredients for an “egg-cellent, eggs-travaganza of a pantomime.”

Anyone interested in being a part of the show should call Paul on 07890 780855 or message the Helston Theatre Company page on Facebook.
