A drink driver from Falmouth was caught at 19 points over the limit after police were alerted to her by a witness who had seen her in a drunken state, staggering, and then get into a car at Helston.

The car’s details were checked and police officers went to the driver’s home and waited for her to drive there.

At Truro Magistrates’ Court Emma Spargo, aged 28, of Trelawney Road, Falmouth, pleaded guilty to drink driving at Falmouth on September 14 when she tested at 54 mcg.

Gail Hawkley, for the CPS, said the waiting police saw her arrive in her car, striking the kerb several times outside her home while reversing and over-revving the engine. She failed their roadside test.

Spargo, who had no previous convictions, told the magistrates: “I went for a meal and did not notice how much I had to drink. I know it was stupid to drive.”

She was banned from driving for a year, fined £180 and £105 costs and surcharge.
