The Culdrose Military Wives Choir in Helston has had a workshop led by one of the UK’s leading voice coaches.

Mark De-Lisser, musical director of the ACM and Singology Gospel Choirs, and vocal coach on The Voice and other television shows, ran the workshop on Sunday, September 21, Mar and the CuldRoses were joined by music students from Mullion School and Helston Community College, meaning 60 singers took part.

Georgina Davies, musical director of the choir, known as the CuldRoses, and head of music at Mullion School, said: “We were honoured that Mark De-Lisser would take time from his incredibly busy schedule to spend with the MWC ladies and young talent in Helston. I have long admired his work and his arrangements are favourites within the CuldRoses’ repertoire.”

She added: “It was an inspiring day that none of the singers will forget, and we learnt some important skills while further developing our unique sound.”

Mark said that this was his first journey to West Cornwall, and after the event he tweeted: “What a day with the Culdroses MWC. We had the best time ever. “Incredible sound and beautiful in every way. Well done Georgina.”

Culdrose MWC performs around the county, and this autumn will be appearing at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro on Sunday, November 16, with the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines from Plymouth for Seafarers UK.

n The choir meets on Thursdays at 7.30pm, at the Culdrose Community Centre in Helston. Those interested in joining, or booking the choir for an event, can make contact by emailing culdrose@militarywiveschoirs.org.
