What do you get if you take one of the region’s best-loved theme parks, add hordes of costumed revellers ready to rave from dusk ’til dawn, and mix in dozens of the dance scene’s brightest names? Yes one of the biggest and craziest Halloween parties in the country, The Masked Ball, is back.

Since organisers of the bi-annual all-night dance party revealed that the venue for their November 1 knees-up, would be none other than Flambards, Helston, there has been a frenzy of planning and excited speculation.

Masked Ball director Kelvin Batt said: “This year’s Halloween Masked Ball, with its myriad of macabre venues, live performers, artworks and installations promises a heightened immersive experience for all that dare enter.

“We’ve really put everything that we got into this Masked Ball; be prepared for a rollercoaster ride into 13 twisted venues right through the night.”

Fitting with the Mexican ‘Day Of The Dead’ theme, the Masked Ball gang have renamed the theme park ‘El Flambardos’, and will be transforming the park into a nocturnal playground featuring arenas inspired by the Island Of The Dolls, an Aztec Asylum, La Morgue, Voodoo Swamp, a Discoteca Del Diablo and a Carnival Of The Damned themed venue, complete with internationally renowned circus performers from Incandescence.

Wandering through the tented complex at night, party-goers will stumble across unpredictable nano-venues, eccentric humour and epic raves with a soundtrack of New York disco, primal chants, cosmic guitar licks and terrifying techno, all designed to make your body parts move ’til your soul blisters.

Billed to appear are Aartekt, Barons of Funk, Blackdog, Bonebookbang, Boogaloo Dee, DJ Cheeba, DJ Food, DJ Moneyshot, Dr Rubberfunk, Drums of Death, Felix Dickinson, Frozen Thumbs DJs, Future Garden DJs, Jac The Disco, JellyJazz, Loose People, Mongolian Disco Show, Mungos Hi-Fi, Musk, New York Transit Authority, NYC Soundsystem, Optimo, Panda, Pete Isaac, Riton, Ry Spenceley, Sir Vinyl DJs, The Allergies, and The Occult.

The hair-raising Lords of Lightning have been added to the bill alongside UK festival live music favourites Slamboree and Babyhead.

The Lords of Lightning show by Arcadia - one of the highlights at this year’s Glastonbury - harnesses 4 million volts of raw electricity into a mystical flow of oscillating chaos, weaving shards of coruscating electricity into a fluid dance before breaking out into a primal battle of crackling energy.

Masked Ball director Kelvin Batt said: “I’m really pleased to invite people from all over the South West and beyond and welcome them to Helston, in what can only be a good thing for the area.”

A camping area has just been added to the event, with VIP enclosures.

To encourage car-sharing, vehicles with four occupants or more will park for free at the event. Cars with a lower occupancy will be subject to a green tax. Buses from all corners of Cornwall and Plymouth have been put on, and organisers are encouraging partygoers to make the most of the arranged transport.

Kelvin said: “Once again, we’ll be engaging the services of local suppliers wherever possible as well as supporting local causes.”

To date, more than £10,000 has been donated by event organisers to charities and needy causes.

The Halloween Masked Ball takes place on Saturday, November 1, at Flambards Theme Park, Clodgey Lane, Helston, TR13 0QA, and runs from 6pm to 6am.

Tickets for the event are on sale at www.maskedball.net priced £50.
