A Helston nursery has received a “flying” visit from a member of the fourth emergency service.

Flying Start Nursery was visited by Keith Holbrook, station officer for Mullion.

Keith began the day by giving a talk about his job and how the youngsters could stay safe when around the coast.

Afterwards he let the excited crowd try on the kit that he had brought with him, including helmets, backpacks and high-visibility jackets.

Tom Blewett, senior nursery nurse at Flying Start, said: “The kids loved it, and were absolutely fascinated with it all. “Particularly when they got to sit in the van, although the sirens were a bit loud for some of them!

“But importantly it helped them become aware of their own safety – while having fun.”

The day was part of the nursery’s ongoing scheme to get involved with the local community and raise safety and awareness topics with the toddlers in a friendly and exciting environment.

Flying Start aims to offer an “active learning” environment, through which the children can explore their personal capabilities and understanding of the world.

They hope that through this the kids will gain a strong foundation for later life and moving onto primary school.
