Police have confirmed that a body found last month is that of a St Austell man missing since July 2013.

The body of David Adams was found on September 25th 2014 at an old mine works in Bodmin Road, St Austell.

David walked out of his home in Watering Hill Close at 4.50pm on 3 July 2013 and had not been seen by July this year, when detectives made an anniversary appeal for sightings.

David, who was 74 at the time he disappeared, took no personal possessions with him and only a very small amount of money. The disappearance was described as completely out of character as he liked to spend most of his time at home.

Police conducted extensive searches and background checks and appealed to members of the public for information.

Detective Constable Louise Richardson, from St Austell CID, said at the time of the appeal: “David is not known to have ever done anything like this before and these actions are totally out of character."

The death is not being treated as suspicious and police will now be preparing a file for the coroner.
