The Lizard CHILD Trust has been chosen as the latest charity to be supported by Helston’s Sainsbury supermarket.

The trust, which is based in the grounds of St Michael’s Primary School, in Helston, was set up in 1999.

It provides care and education for children aged between birth and five years, as well as breakfast and after school clubs for children aged five to 11 years, plus a holiday club.

The trust also organises events in the community, including a fully booked Hallowe’en party this Friday.

There are plans to become better known in the town over the coming months, with staff and children due to sing at Helston Museum during the Helston Christmas lights switch on this year.

Each year the Helston branch of Sainsbury’s chooses a different charity in the area to support.

Over 12 months staff will raise money for the trust through collections and events, including a sponsored car wash, and also give prizes for raffles and support the different Lizard CHILD Trust events.

Jody Finbow, one of the managers at the trust, said: “They can give you all those things that you need, which you don’t want to have to keep asking local shops for.”

In addition, the supermarket is letting the trust use one of its rooms so it can offer training courses.

Currently the trust is holding a childcare course, run by training development manager Tracy Griffiths.
