Families visiting Penrose Estate near Helston enjoyed pressing, bobbing, peeling and juicing at the second annual apple day last weekend.

There was juice for the children and cider for the adults, as well as muffins, cakes and crumble made from the fruit, all of which came from the 15 year old trees in the estate’s own orchards.

Laura Bailey, community ranger at the National Trust owned site, said: “It’s just a celebration of orchards and traditional apple varieties and the old customs.

“We wanted to do it to keep the old traditions alive.

“There were lots of families, we had a couple of hundred people.

“There was something for everybody, cider for adults in the cafe and the children absolutely loved pressing their own apples and drinking the juice.”

As well as all the apple-based activities, there was music provided by the Porthleven School signing choir and by Porthleven band the Flats and Sharps.
