While the real Father Christmas works flat out for his annual journey around the globe, hundreds of Santa fans are preparing to use his famous suit to raise money for Cornwall Hospice Care.

The Cornish charity is hosting its 2014 Santa series of fun runs and this year there are seven events across the county to choose from.

They start on Wednesday, November 26, when Cornwall Hospice Care has organised a late night run in Truro city and end on Sunday, December 21 with a Santa sprint on the beach at Marazion.

In between there’s a run at Bodmin on November 29, a cycle and fun run at Padstow on December 6, another event at Heartlands, Redruth on December 7 and a beach run at Newquay on December 20.

Sandwiched in amongst all these dates is a Rudolph versus Santa event at Falmouth on Saturday, December 13.

Lindsay Opie, major fundraiser for Cornwall Hospice Care, said the events were a great way to build up to Christmas, adding: “Our Santa series is all about having fun while raising money, so we can continue to provide free care at our two Cornish hospices for patients and their families.

“Yes our work providing special care is serious, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy raising money at this special time of year.

“Our events give you the opportunity to run, jog, walk or cycle in free Santa suits or in antlers and reindeer brown shirts. All we ask in return is that you raise at least £20.14 in 2014.

“I can tell you now there’s nothing quite as spectacular as a flock of Santas racing towards you or, as will happen at Falmouth, a stand-off between the Santas and the reindeers.”
