Falmouth Theatre Company is looking for its very own Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore to take the lead roles in its production of The Wedding Singer next summer.

The Hollywood pair starred in the 1998 film which was set in 1985 and told the tale of wannabe rock star and New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer, Robbie Hart, and the trials and tribulations of his love life and career.

The movie was a huge hit, taking people back to the eighties, when shoulders pads wide, hair was big and the music was infectious.

Falmouth Theatre Company hopes to capitalise on the popularity of the film when it stages the Cornish premiere of The Wedding Singer next June.

In preparation for the show, which will be staged at The Poly, the company has put out a call for budding actors, actresses and back stage crew to get involved.

Director and choreographer, Jo Tatham said: “It is not particularly well known as a theatre show, but it has done a West End run. It is a really lovely show and it’s going to be a lot of fun.

“I did this show at university and really enjoyed it. I thought it would be a really good show for Falmouth Theatre Company. We are always open to new members and are completely open to anybody who is interested.”

Musical chairman, Joan Betts, added: “We want people to come along and have a go and see if they like it before the actual auditions, but we also need back stage crew. There must be people in Falmouth who are retired who were carpenters, painters and the like who would like to be part of this.”

Two pre-audition rehearsals will be held at 7.30pm on January 12 and 19 when anyone interested is invited along to meet the company and familiarise themselves with the show.

The first audition, for singers, will be held at 7.30pm on January 26, and will be followed on at 2.30pm on February 1 by the dance auditions.

The Wedding Singer will be performed on June 11, 12 and 13 and then again on June 18, 19 and 20.

Anyone interested should turn up at the John Harris Rehearsal Rooms in Chapel Terrace or email falmouththeatrecompany@yahoo.co.uk or search Facebook for more information.
