Rotary members sat down to a “frugal meal” at their last meeting, to support the organisation’s ongoing charity.
With the support of Barry and Naomi Clark of the Wheal Dream, the regular meeting place for Helston-Lizard Rotary Club, the restaurant laid on a meal at half the usual price. Members then donated the other half to the Rotary Polio Plus Appeal, which pays for polio vaccines in Asia and Africa.
The club raised £300 on the night and with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation donating £2 for every pound raised by Rotary.
This means the donation towards worldwide polio eradication will be multiplied to £900. This equates to approximately 1,800 vaccinations.
